Day 1

After meeting with the Paesaggio Sicilia staff member at the airport of Catania the group will reach our chosen accommodation: the Agriturismo Case Perrotta. This charming rural hotel is also a farm with many hectares of organically farmed land that gives excellent Etna PDO cherries and a several times awarded olive oil. Among the olive and cherry trees, the volcano Etna smokes quietly but sometimes offers fantastic red lava eruptions to Case Perrotta’s guests.

Over dinner, you will have the opportunity to taste the excellent oil and the many specialities of the chef Paterno.

Day 2

After breakfast, you will slowly move to the Northern slope of Mount Etna to have a first experience of lava, volcanic soil and life under the volcano at Fattorie Romeo del Castello, a farm miraculously spared by a terrible lava flow in 1981. Here in company of the owners you will visit the vineyards, the lava flow and enjoy a great meal and wine tasting in their old and charming rural baglio.

In the afternoon, we will stop for a visit to the small and very innovative Graci winery. One of the best example of new wine makers on Mount Etna.

Day 3

Today on the Eastern slope of Mount Etna we will visit two wineries that have made the history of Etna wines: the beautiful historical Benanti winery andthe Barone di Villagrande winery.

The Benanti family is one of those who had a crucial role in the explosion of the Etna wine passion both in Italy and abroad. In their company, you will be able to try some of their DOC and cru that are now part of the Sicilian wines legend and enjoy another Sicilian lunch in their beautiful premises.

We will then move to the coast to visit the baroque town of Acireale with its churches and confectionaries and watch the typical Sicilian “passiu”.

Back on Mount Etna for aperitivo and dinner at Barone di Villagrande. The owners of this winery were the promoters and the creators of the DOC regulation for Etna wines. ETNA DOC became later a symbol of quality and supported a lot the image of this wine.

Day 4

Back again to the Northern slope to visit another iconic winery of Mount Etna: Passopisciaro of Andrea Franchetti. This great wine maker from Tuscany has here several vineyards scattered all over the area to make excellent ETNA DOC reds and in the highest vineyards grows chardonnay grapes to make a white wine that bravely challenge the best ETNA DOC whites. We will visit the beautiful winery and enjoy an excellent meal and wine tasting.

From rural to glamorous, the rest of the day will be for you to stroll around in the cosmopolitan city centre of Taormina, enjoy its little cafes and restaurants and visit the beautiful Greco-Roman theatre.

We will finish our day with a refreshing beer (or wine) and a consistent barbeque at Case Perrotta.
